ELEKTRA PRESENTS AND PROMOTES WORKS CREATED AT THE INTERSECTIONS OF CONTEMPORARY ART AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES, INSCRIBED IN THE LATEST AESTHETIC CURRENTS OF RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENTATION.

The ELEKTRA International Digital Art Festival showcases audiovisual, immersive, participatory and/or robotic artistic performances since 1999. Last year they showed some of my AI-generated images. I was very happy that they invited me for a solo show, focussing on my recent AI-generated video works. Thanks to Gilles Tarasbiscuité from Hangar 7826 for making the contacts and to Alain Thibault for the curating.

Fragments of an Artificial Consciousness” gathers three video series to explore the concept of artificial consciousness, shining a light on its inherent, real-world limitations. Presenting “Professional Development”, “Goldberg’s Cave”, and selected works from “Neverending Stories”, the exhibition deploys AI-generated video loops and fragments to consider the fictional nature of such a consciousness. Collage-like in their surprising transformations from frame to frame, these works blur and clip the line between reality and nightmare, human and prompted construction, the mind and its absence. At times Kafkaesque, at times funny, these short films fit right in with horror and animate the troubles and figments of a consciousness that cannot be.

A collaboration between ELEKTRA Montréal and Hangar 7826 Montréal.
