LA CHAMBRE
“HAUNTOLOGY FOR BEGINNERS | Part I: Something’s Missing and You Know It”
An artistic meta-critique of the distance between photography and AI-generated images (“promptography”).
After curating two major shows on this topic earlier this year (“European Month of Photography” Berlin, “Roger Ballen Centre for Photography” Johannesburg), this is the first time Eldagsen takes on the subject as an artist himself rather than curator or keynote speaker.
In the first room of La Chambre you will find my new series THIS IS NOT PHOTOGRAPHY, mixed media works that define the difference between photography and AI-generated images.
The second and third room present an installation of my new work TRAUM PORN Reloaded.
The series uses Derrida’s Hauntology as a framework to explore contemporary right-wing populism, merging imagery from Nazi Germany with today’s visual symbols and technologies. Fascism survives not as an active regime but as an echo – an unresolved past looping through the present. It lingers in aesthetics, symbols, fears, and the seductive simplicity of authoritarian answers to complex problems. Hauntology exposes how these residues return in disguised forms: nostalgia for imaginary golden ages, the fetish of order, the myth of “purity,” the longing for a future that ressembles a past. It’s not about reenacting history but about recognizing how its shadows keep shaping our desires, our politics, and our images.
Through the lens of Hauntology, this work becomes a mirror held up to our current society — exposing how the spectral specters of “the past” suffuse our images, our fears, our politics. It asks not “remember?” but “recognize what’s still here.”
LA CRYOGÈNIE
“HAUNTOLOGY FOR BEGINNERS | Part II: The Feeling You Requested Is Unavailable”
The installation THIS IS NOT ART is a reflection on the differences between AI art and human-made art.
At the center are the three AI ART RANTS – where Bukowski, Van Gogh, and the Punk movement “return” to rant about AI. The works have been awarded at AI film festivals worldwide, and while I share many of the arguments, each piece was co-created with AI, giving the project a conceptual twist.
The videos are installed on wallpaper showing humans, animals, and monsters drifting through space, laughing over fortune cookies — and on the wall, the opened cookie slips: short aphorisms about what separates human creation from artificial generation.
